- Things to do around town
In Stamford, there’s always something happening. Whether you’re walking the 19 miles of shoreline, grabbing a drink or a bite Downtown, or hiking the scenic trails of North Stamford, you’ll never be bored.
The city is packed with over 150 restaurants, six major hotels, and The Stamford Town Center has over 100 shops to explore. With more than 40 parks and recreational areas, including some on the Long Island Sound, there’s plenty of green space. Mill River Park, situated in the heart of Downtown Stamford, is often referred to as the Mini Central Park of Connecticut, hosting various events all year round.
Alive@Five is a must-see summer concert series on Thursday nights in Columbus Park. The Palace Theatre brings in world-class performers, major off-Broadway shows, the Stamford Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut Grand Opera, and the Connecticut Ballet. The Avon Theatre is perfect for catching the best in independent and art nouveau films on its two screens.
And don’t miss Stamford’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the biggest helium balloon parade in Connecticut and one of the largest in the country, drawing over 100,000 spectators each year. It’s like the NYC Macy’s Day Parade, but without the lip-syncing. Fun for the whole family!
